MARGAO: Cuncolim MLA Clafasio Dias challenged the Goa Forward Party ministers to prove his involvement in any scam and offered to resign from politics is that is established while reacting to the allegations made at the programme held to induct Yuri Alemao into the party at Cuncolim on Sunday.
“It appears that as long as I supported Joaquim Alemao I was good and now have turned bad,” he said pointing out that the period when he is alleged to have committed scams were when Joaquim Alemao was the MLA which would imply that Joaquim is also involved in those scams.
He dismissed charges that he is involved in creating plots illegally and selling them and challenged the Goa Forward Party ministers to prove this especially as Vijai Sardessai is the Town and Country Planning Minister.
“I am ready to quit politics if any of the charges against me are proven or else they have to resign from politics for making baseless allegations,” he said.
While pointing out that the electorate of Cuncolim has rejected Joaquim Alemao twice, he wondered why the need to bring his son Yuri who was also rejected by the people of Sanguem earlier in Cuncolim now.
Clafasio alleged that 300 youngsters from Sanguem were given government jobs of the quota meant for Cuncolim when Joaquim Alemao was a minister and yet Yuri could not win the elections in Sanguem.
“Cuncolim launched the first battle against the Portuguese and they are capable of handling their affairs and do not need people from Varca coming to rule over them specially when these people have no respect at all in Varca,” he said.
While welcoming Yuri Alemao’s entry into Goa Forward Party which he said was a democratic right, he however requested Yuri to speak the truth and not concoct stories and slander someone. “Yuri joining Goa Forward Party is a plus point for me as many of his supporters have now returned to the Congress,” he said.
He said Goans and particularly those in Salcete are suspicious of Goa Forward Party especially after the fish with formalin issue and said he was prepared to face the assembly elections whenever they are held.
He dismissed Yuri’s joining Goa Forward Party as yet another party hopping exercise.
