PORVORIM: Thousands of litres of water is suspected to have been wasted in Mapusa, following claims that a water pipeline by the roadside near the Mapusa market has been leaking for about five months.
A Shiv Sena delegation led by Philip D’Souza called on PWD (water supply) Assistant Engineer Vilas Tamaskar and complained that water from the pipeline is leaking continuously and claimed that thousands of litres of potable water had been wasted. D’Souza has requested the assistant engineer to inspect the site.
Later, Tamaskar visited the site and after a closer look at the water, denied claims that water has been leaking from the PWD pipeline.
“PWD releases water to the market area from 6 am to 9 am and hence this leakage cannot be from the PWD pipeline. The water appears to be flowing from the gutter. However, I will investigate into the matter,” assured Tamaskar.
Refuting Tamaskar’s arguments, D’Souza insisted that the water is potable and to prove his point, he drank some of the water.
He demanded an immediate investigation by the PWD, failing which he has threatened to take up the matter with higher authorities.
