MARGAO: The fate of the remaining students seeking admissions to XI Science in Chowgule higher secondary school will be known on Wedneday.
Deputy Director of Education Ramkrishna Samant made his presence felt at the higher secondary this evening, but could not meet the Principal, Dr R V Gaonkar, who was in Panjim in connection with the High Court hearing. “My inquiries have revealed that the higher secondary has not displayed the second list of students on the notice board on Tuesday. We will have to wait and see the response of the higher secondary on Wednesday,” informed Samant.
When contacted, Principal Gaonkar stated that the status quo regarding the admissions remains unchanged with the school giving admissions to around 100-odd students against the 200 seats at stake. “Let us see. We will come to know the exact status on Wednesday,” Gaonkar replied when asked whether the higher secondary will reduce the 76.17 cut-off percentage to accommodate and fill up the 200 seats for the XI Science stream.
The higher secondary school announced its decision to admit 200 students in XI Science this academic year, but the institute has admitted only around 103 students so far, leaving many a student and parent on tenterhooks.
