PONDA: Around 200 students from Std X and XII will protest at the office of the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Porvorim and also at the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant’s residence Altinho on Monday.
The protest will begin at 9.30 am at Porvorim and later the students will proceed to Altinho to the CM’s residence.
On Sunday, students held an online protest at Dada Vaidya Chowk, Ponda demanding the GBHSHE and the Chief Minister to postpone the exams. Online protests were also held in different parts of the State.
In the protest at Ponda, students said, “A new strain of Covid-19 has entered the State at present that can affect the health of students and now it is not the same situation like last year. When CBSE and other exams are postponed how can government risk lives of students in Goa?”
The students protested by displaying placards with some of them reading ‘Exams in Covid is suicide,’ ‘Exams should be postponed, students lives matter’, ‘Students fighting two pandemics Covid and Stupidity’.
Installing a screen at the site, around 500 students connected online supporting the demand of postponing the exams.
The National Students of India (NSUI) President Ahraz Mulla also lent support to the students’ demand. “Today the online protest was held in various places like Ponda, Margao, Panjim, Mapusa and Sanvordem with around 2000 joining at every place.”
Following social distancing norms, Mulla said, the students would protest at the Goa Board office at Porvorim and later go to Altinho to protest at the CM’s office.
