Class X, XII students who were absent for 1st term exam can now appear for the 2nd term as one-time measure

PANJIM: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has permitted the students of Class X and XII, who remained absent for the first-term examination held in November last year, to appear for the second-term exam as a “one-time measure”.

Over 40,000 students are set to answer their second term examination for Class XII and X from March 15 and April 1, respectively. For Class XII second term, beginning from March 15, total 19,807 students will appear. The examination will be held across 20 centers.

In a circular issued, the Goa Board said that it has been observed that “some candidates remained absent for the first-term exams of SSC and HSSC November 2022 without justifying the reason. However, some have remained absent on medical ground or participation in the national sports event.”  The matter was extensively deliberated in the examination committee meeting dated March 3, 2023, held at the board’s office.

“The decision of the examination committee is that if candidates were absent for the first-term exam for whatever reason, they will be awarded zero marks in the first term. However, they will be permitted to appear in the second-term exam as a one-time measure,” the Board said.

The Board further said that if the candidates are absent for the second-term exam, they will be treated as absent in that particular subject or subjects and the final result will say ‘needs improvement’.

Also, the unsuccessful candidates, irrespective of number of subjects with needs improvement, would be allowed to appear for the supplementary examination.
