Class XI student assaulted by classmates in ragging incident at Borda govt school

MARGAO: A 17-year-old student of the Government Multipurpose School in Borda, Margao, was taken to hospital after he was assaulted by two classmates, who were allegedly ‘ragging’ him. 

The Fatorda police said that the father of the minor boy, Birappa Shivpur has registered a complaint alleging that two other students of Class XI of the school in Borda attacked his son with slaps and blows, around 11.45 am, in the school campus on Wednesday. Sources said the victim was teased and harassed by the two boys, who picked on him with no provocation. 

The victim, a resident of Talsanzor, Borda, was taken to the South Goa District Hospital at Margao for treatment of his injuries. 

The boys who reportedly assaulted him are residents of the Housing Board Water Resources Department quarters, both located in Gogol. 

The Fatorda police said that they conducted preliminary inquiries and submitted a report to the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) member for South Goa, and the two bullies were produced before the JJB official as well. The police said that both boys have been directed to be present at the JJB, Merces, for a hearing on February 14.  

The Fatorda police said that no cognisable case has been registered based on the complaint, but further investigation is in progress.
