PANJIM: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) is likely to announce the 2020-21 Board exam results of Class XII in the last week of June, while Class X would be declared in the first week of July.
Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Board examinations of Class XII, which are otherwise held in February-March, are being held in April-May, while Class X exams are held in May-June this year, as against annual trend of April-May.
As per the schedule announced by the GBSHSE, the Board exams for the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) will be held from April 24 to May 17, while the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams are scheduled between May 20 and June 3.
The examinations will be conducted via offline mode across 18 centres and nearly 90-odd sub-centres.
Speaking to media persons, GBSHSE chairman Bhagirath Shetye said due to COVID-19 pandemic, the schools were granted additional time to complete the syllabus and accordingly the Board exams were delayed.
He said total 19,241 students have registered for Class XII examination, while 24,000-odd students will answer Class X papers. “Normally, we announce results, four weeks after the conduct of the examination. This year too, the efforts would be same,” Shetye said.
Tentatively, the chairman said the Class XII results would be announced by last week of June, while Class X results should be out by first week of July.
Wearing of masks, physical distancing, sanitisation of the classrooms and centres are some of the mandatory norms that would be followed during the conduct of examination, Shetye said.
While the final time table of Class XII is out, the Board is yet to release the data-sheet of Class X.
Shetye said for the very first time, the number of boys answering Class XII exams is more that is 9,673 while the girls are 9,568.
Total 5,107 students have registered for Arts stream, 5,815 for Commerce, 4,988 for Science and 3,331 for Vocational stream.
The Chairman informed that only 12-15 students would be accommodated in each class maintaining proper physical distancing.
A dedicated medical team or officer from nearby health centre would be made available in case of emergency, he said.
Shetye said student, who has a COVID-19 patient in the family, will either be allowed to answer exam in an isolated centre or will be given an opportunity to appear during June Supplementary examination.
