PANJIM: Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) on Saturday finally announced the class XII results. However, this year results witnessed a slight drop in pass percentage from 88.78 percent in 2017 to current 85.84 percent for which the board has attributed it to poor performance in mathematics in the Science stream.
Meanwhile, Goa Board declared the Class XII results in record time this year two weeks earlier than the previous years in view of the top professional entrance exams.
The 2018 examination across 16 centers saw a record 17,739 students appearing of whom 15,227 passed taking the pass percentage to 85.84 percent. GBSHSE also observed an annual trend wherein girls have once again outshone he boys while the overall pass percentage stood at 85.84, girls registered an impressive 87.41 percent against 80.13 per cent of the boys.
Stream wise statistics reveal that 3,474 passed in Arts stream, while, 4,893 in Commerce, 4,496 in the Science and 2,364 in the Vocational streams.
Addressing the media, GBSHSE Chairperson Ramakrishna Samant said, “This year the pass percentage has slightly dropped from 88.77 per cent to 85.84 percent and the reason for that is the poor performance of the students from the Science stream in mathematics paper and that is how it affected the overall percentage. There were no complaints from the students over mathematics paper and the HSS are required to investigate and correct it.”
“If we have a look at the stream wise pass percentage, Arts stream stood at 85.17 percent while Commerce with 90.58 percent stood highest among all streams, Science with 82.31 per cent and lastly Vocational with 84.55 percent. The maximum pass percentage was achieved at Porvorim centre whereas minimum pass percentage was at Ponda centre. Also 15 HSS secured more than 95 per cent and above pass percentages,” Samant said.
Samant also informed that a total 3,743 students were eligible for sports merit marks of whom 255 cleared the exams with the help of these marks.
