PONDA: The cleaner of a road roller died while the driver jumped out of the vehicle to safety, when it veered out of control and fell on its side at Farmagudi on Friday.

Police said that when the road roller was proceeding from Goa Engineering College (GEC) to Farmagudi slope, its brake suddenly failed. Realising that he lost control over the vehicle, driver Tabraf Niyaz (45) jumped out of the road roller and suffered minor injuries.
However, Cleaner Alam Ansari (24), a resident of Mollem, fell with the road roller, suffered serious injuries and died.
Niyaz, also a resident Mollem, has been shifted to Ponda Sub-District Hospital for treatment.
It is learnt that before jumping out of the road roller, Niyaz alerted the cleaner to jump out, but the latter could not do so.
Ponda PI Mohan Gaude and his team conducted a panchnama of the accident spot.
