Cleanliness drive carried out across the State

PANJIM: As part of the nationwide campaign launched by the Centre, various government agencies and NGOs organised cleanliness drive under ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’.

Massive cleanliness drive was carried out by Goa Legal Metrology in different parts of the State, under the guidance of its Controller Arun Panchwadkar. The drive was carried out at Margao, Mapusa, Curchorem, Mala in Panjim and around the Department’s premises at Porvorim.

Launching the programme Panchwadkar said, “Devoting one hour for cleanliness in every village and municipal area of the State was a befitting tribute to the father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi who believed in cleanliness.”

In Valpoi, Phoenix Socio Cultural Association (PSCA) in collaboration with Valpoi Community Health Centre and Unity High School (UHS), Valpoi held the cleanliness drive covering areas in ward number 7 of the municipality. The school students distributed leaflets explaining importance of cleanliness to the households in the area.

On the occasion sanitation workers collecting garbage from the households were felicitated by UHS Headmaster Ashraf Khan who thanked the health centre and PSCA for participating in the drive.

Meanwhile, the Sanguem Municipal Council (SMC) and the panchayats in Sanguem taluka conducted the cleanliness drive in wake of the call given by the government to carryout the drives under the campaign, ‘Swacchta Hi Seva’.

All the ten councillors of SMC organised the drive in their respective wards alongwith the residents to clean the surroundings from litters. 

The villages of Bhati, Netorlim, Uguem and Collem also undertook the hour long cleanliness drive.

In Mapusa, different police stations in jurisdiction Mapusa Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) held cleanliness drives under the banner of ‘Ek Tarikh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath, Swachata hi seva’. 

The Mapusa police station staff carried out cleanliness drive near Bodgeshwar Temple area while the officers and staff of Anjuna police station conducted cleanliness drive at Anjuna beach. Colvale police station staff cleaned the areas under its jurisdiction. 

Meanwhile police stations of Colva, Fatorda and Maina Curtorim also conducted cleanliness drives in areas under their jurisdiction.
