PANJIM: For the third consecutive year, Directorate of Education has directed educational institutions to celebrate ‘Swach Bharat Swach Vidyalya Abhiyan’ on October 2, to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
“As has been done in the past, this year too, it is desired to observe the ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ by keeping in mind Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, with special focus on educational sector to take up the cleanliness drive in and around the school premises,” Education Director Gajanan Bhat said in a notification.
“The heads of all government, government aided, unaided and non government unaided primary, secondary, higher secondary and special schools in the State are hereby directed to organize various activities on cleanliness in and around the school premises,” he said.
Bhat said that October 2 was never a holiday for educational institutes, who were supposed to hold various programs to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi. The department has asked institutions to motivate students to take up cleanliness drives in their residential localities and get students to act as ambassadors of cleanliness.
“Such drives need to be held as there is need to inculcate a higher spirit of hygiene and cleanliness amongst all children,” Bhat said.
