Clear encroachments on PWD acquired land at Opa-Khandepar junction, kiosk owners told

PONDA: Ponda Deputy Collector has directed the two kiosk owners operating at Opa-Khandepar junction to clear their encroachments on PWD acquired land within 10 days of passing the order, failing which the Executive Engineer, PWD XVIII under Section (6) of Goa Land prohibition of Construction Act, 1995 will be free to demolish the encroachment on the land acquired by the department and use force and if needed by procuring the services of a demolition squad.

The Deputy Collector also directed the Curti-Khandepar panchayat to cancel the provisional NOC dated November 30, 2012 and Establishment trade licence dated February 16, 2021 issued to kiosk owners to operate in the said land.

The joint site inspection and report submitted by the team of executive engineers of Div XV (NH) PWD and Div XVIII (R) and Inspector of Land Survey and Records along with Ponda Mamlatdar revealed that the two structures kiosk are partly within the land acquired in Survey No 186/1-A which is in possession of PWD Div XVIII and some part of the structure is in 186/1 of Khandepar village which is not acquired.

The complaint against the kiosks was filed before the Deputy Collector from Khandepar by local Sandeep Parkar saying they pose a risk to life of students of MIBK school who wait for the buses on road due to the encroachment.

Petitioner Parkar welcomed the order and said this will make way for construction of a bus shed at Opa-Khandepar junction for school students.  There was a continuous demand from parents for a bus shed in PWD acquired land for the safety of school children.

He said due to the encroachment, students were forced to stand on the main road and risked their lives since vehicles used to speed along the National Highway.
