PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said the government staff should clear files in time because delays lead to increase in corruption and subsequent loss to the government.
Speaking at the inauguration of the ‘Vigilance Awareness Week’, the Chief Minister also disclosed that during his term about eight to nine government officers were suspended due to various reasons while, there are 10 to 12 major vigilance complaints with the Vigilance Department and the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
The theme of the week is ‘Corruption Free India for a Developed Nation’. The week, which commenced on October 31, will conclude on November 4,
Sawant said, “Even if one doesn’t take a bribe but makes inordinate delays in taking a decision, it is a loss to the government.”
He said one should use technology to reduce delays and asked Heads of Departments (HoDs) to consider making more public-oriented services online for the convenience of people.
The Chief Minister further informed that the government had activated the Public Vigilance Cell a few months ago and a forum for a complaint redressal system where complaints are received online. He informed that the cell seeks explanation from Heads of Departments whenever a complaint is received.

Vigilance Awareness Week is held to coincide with the birth anniversary of India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel also known as the ‘Iron Man of India.’
Chief Secretary and Chief Vigilance Officer Puneet Kumar Goel, IAS administered the Integrity Pledge to those gathered.
Calling Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel a man of integrity, he explained his contribution to integrating India into a united country.
It is the duty of the Heads of Departments to improve systems and processes in their departments so that the public are not hassled and made to visit government offices to get their work done, he added.
