‘Clear promotion backlog in police dept’

Panjim: In a bid to clear a huge backlog of promotions in police departments, the Ministers has urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to at least promote the police inspectors on adhoc basis till a new policy is finalised.

“The CM has agreed to promote police inspectors to DYSPs on ad hoc basis till a policy is formulated,” Minister Michael Lobo, said.

Lobo said that huge injustice is being done to the policemen, who are doing a yeoman’s service.

He said the backlog of promotions in the dept is pending for a long time since 2017. “People have been Police Inspectors for 10-15 years and they now feel they would retire as PIs,” he said.

He added that the time is right for promotions as even the lower rung officers will also get a chance to grow. “There are 40 posts of DySPs vacant,” he added

Asked why the delay, he said, there is some faulty policy of 60-40 ratio. “We appealed to CM to give adhoc promotions for now and then come out with a policy on recruitments,” he said.

“If there is direct recruitment, the PIs will never grow. Right now, the file has been moved for six persons but we have asked him to do it now as otherwise the recruitment will take 2 years,” he said. Lobo added that the CM has agreed for promotions and also policy.

Speaking on the mobile towers, Lobo stated that everybody has mobiles in Goa but nobody wants towers. “We need towers now at least considering the problems faced by students due to online classes,” he added.
