VASCO: The recent incident wherein a rider died in a tree crash at Swatantra Path in Vasco last week has finally grabbed the attention of the Disaster Management Committee and the Mormugao Municipal Council.
Councillor Krishna alias Daji Salkar on Wednesday along with other officials from committee visited the site where clearing of trees identified as dangerous was in progress.
Vasco fire official Francisco Mendes said, “As per the instructions from the disaster management committee to clear the dangerous trees, we are assisting in the operation. We have formed teams to tackle specific areas and clear these huge old trees with the help of additional labourers provided to us by the committee”.
Some trees are huge and need to be cut with utmost care. The work began on Tuesday and may go on for a few more days” Mendes said.
Since Tuesday, the cutting of trees posing danger to commuters along the Swatantra path is in progress and a few were cleared.
