CM admits Goa has high unemployment rate

Says one lakh job seekers have registered with Employment Exchange

PANJIM: In a rare admission, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that Goa has high unemployment rate as several youth have registered themselves with the Employment Exchange. 

Speaking at the launch of Model Career Centre (MCC) in the capital, the Chief Minister further stated that around one lakh job seekers have registered with the State Employment Exchange. 

He claimed that MCC will prove as best facility to create conducive environment for youth to seek employment and it will not be limited to enrolment for government jobs. “The MCC will also open doors of private sectors with excellent job prospects,” he added appealing to the youth to get registered and avail the facilities available with MCC. 

Minister for Labour and Employment Jennifer Monserrate informed that MCC is all equipped with modern facilities, which will cater to the needs of the youth such as job replacement, job creation and job counselling. It will facilitate private industries to find right candidate fitting to their requirement.

“MCC will have smart technologies that will enable the local youth to get connected and learn from the best teachers, professionals, mentors and peers from across India. It will connect our youth to leading skill training institutes, assessment bodies, schools, colleges, local community leaders, etc,” she said. 

The new centre, an initiative of the Office of the Commissioner Labour and Employment, Regional Employment Exchange, will also conduct placement drives, job fair to ensure employment opportunities to the youth.
