CM advocates strong penalty for Markaz organisers, attendees

Asks IGP to launch hunt for attendees; Says enough stocks in State; DSSS, Griha Aadhar payments soon

PANJIM: Advocating strong punishment for the organisers and participants of the Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin, Delhi, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that the State is hunting for individuals, who are concealing information of their attending at the Markaz.

“Tablighi Jamat has cost India dearly. It has put the entire nation in trouble viz a viz COVID-19 outbreak,” Sawant said, at his daily press meet. The Chief Minister said he has been communicating with the police and the bureaucrats on any persons who attended from Goa.

“I am told that there are nine participants, who did not come out of masjids yet. We have also come to understand that after March 15 no Markaz attendee has landed in Goa. Whoever has returned came earlier,” he said.

Sawant said he has asked the IGP to launch a manhunt to see if anyone is hiding. “These attendees and participants need to be punished. Importantly, those returned need to be quarantined and tested,” Sawant said.

Sawant said there has been enough stock in the State and people need not panic about availability as around 574 vegetable and essential supply trucks came in the State. “Enough supplies have arrived and almost 90 per cent of grocery shops are open,” he said.

The Chief Minister also said that the government will deposit the DSSS and Griha Aadhar payments soon.

“On April 2, government servants will get their salary and after that on April 5 and April 9 the DSSS and Griha Aadhar payments will be deposited respectively.”

Besides this, he said the PM has also announced Rs 500 each for next three months to be deposited in Jan Dhan accounts.

Sawant also said that he has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on safe return of Goan seafarers.

“I have asked the PM and HM to intervene and facilitate the return of Goan seafarers at the earliest. Once they return we will quarantine them for 21 days as per the requirement,” Sawant said.

He said that he expects there are about 7000-8000 seafarers, currently working at different locations.
