PANJIM: The State government has allowed print media to publish its newspaper, amidst rumours that paper can be carriers of the coronavirus.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday chaired a meeting, which was attended by representatives of Goa Union of Journalists (GUJ) and Editors Guild.
The meeting was called at the behest of GUJ as on Sunday there was a request from the CM not to print newspapers and only disseminate news online and on social media.
During the meeting, the editors impressed upon the CM that there is no scientific study that shows that newspapers can be carriers of the virus. WHO was quoted to endorse this statement.
Chief Minister was also told that the role of the newspaper is extremely important in the current situation where it is necessary that correct information is passed to the people The CM agreed that newspapers may be printed. He was also asked to communicate to the police force not to stop media persons on duty or those going to work, and also not stop the vendors and newspaper boys from distributing the paper.
