PANJIM: In a major setback to the government, the Goa Lokayukta has informed Governor Mridula Sinha that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is among 35 MLAs who have not disclosed the details of their assets and liabilities for the financial year 2017-2018 to the Lokayukta office even after the deadline lapsed on June 30.
A report to this effect has been sent by Goa Lokayukta Justice (retired) PK Misra to the Governor. Besides the CM, the others include nine ministers, Speaker Pramod Sawant and other MLAs.
The MLAs were given a deadline of June 30 but failed to submit the statements after which the Lokayukta decided to submit a report to Governor, who is the competent authority as per the law. The Lokayukta has stated that it had sent reminders to the MLAs.
As per the rules, the Governor can place the matter before the State Legislative Assembly and the Lokayukta will publish the names of the public functionaries in two newspapers within two months of submitting the non-compliance report.
