PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday appealed to people to upload `Tricolour’ as profile picture on social media from August 2 to 15 and to hoist national flag on their houses from August 13 to 15, to commemorate the `Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’.
Addressing a press conference, Sawant requested the people to upload national flag as profile picture on social media for three days from August 2 to 15.
Sawant appealed to the people to hoist national flag on their houses from August 13 to 15, the Independence Day as part of `Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.
He said that flag can be hoisted day and night as the Government of India has how relaxed the restrictions of hoisting the flat at night hours by amending the Flag Code of India 2002.
Sawant called upon the people to buy national flags which will be made available at stationery shops, Goa bagayatdars, village panchayats also schools from August 2. It will be available in three sizes and rates have been fixed.
The Chief Minister said that plastic flags will not be allowed for use. He said that the government has purchased 3.6 lakh flags from the Government of India and another one lakh flags prepared by the self-help groups will be purchased by the Goa Handicrafts and made available for sale.
The Chief Minister said that various programmes will be organised at the taluka level on the Independence Day. A photo contest will be organised by the Department of Information and Publicity.
Also 31 freedom fighters from various States who fought to liberate Goa and sacrificed their lives in 1955 will be presented `Certificates of Honour.’ This will be in additional to freedom fighters from Goa who will also be honoured.
