MARGAO: Newly-elected Cuncolim Municipal Chairperson Landry Mascarenhas has petitioned the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to release the Octroi grant and help usher in development of the town.
Landry, who along with CMC Councillors met the Chief Minister in the presence of Cuncolim MLA Rajan Naik, pressed for development projects, including a commercial complex and hiking camp site at the Municipality acquired land at Siddhnagar.
He told the media that the Chief Minister has promised to release the Octroi due to the Civic body of the last financial year to facilitate payment of salaries for the municipal staff. “We expect the Octroi grant amounting to Rs 41 lakh to come to the Civic coffers any time,” he said.
On the commercial complex in the market, the new Chairperson has fully backed the MLA’s plans to build the complex, saying it will help shift the government departments under one roof. “The MLA has proposed a hiking camp site on the Municipality acquired land at Siddhnagar. The matter was discussed with the Chief Minister during our meeting,” he said.
He said the civic body would take up sterilisation of dogs in the jurisdiction of Cuncolim on a priority basis to tackle the stray dog menace.
