MAPUSA: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said that he has asked the authorities to book the contractor, who had asked the labourer to go inside the septic tank at Ektanagar, Mapusa.
“Today I saw that a labourer was asked to enter a sewage tank and the labourer died. I have asked the authorities to file a case against the contractor. It is his responsibility. When vacuum suctions were available it was the responsibility of the contractor. I reviewed the incident and asked the authorities to book the contractor,’’ he said while speaking at an event,” the Chief Minister said.
The 28-year-old, Yamanappa Madar, a sanitation worker was on Friday suffocated to death after he fell inside a septic tank.
Even though the Fire and Emergency Services (FES) responded quickly, Madar could not be saved.
Madar was performing routine maintenance when the incident occurred.
According to Mapusa Fire Station officials, there were three other workers who had also descended into the tank to clean it but they managed to come out. The fourth victim fell unconscious in the tank. After receiving the information, Mapusa Fire Station personnel rushed to the spot, but by the time they reached, the worker was already dead.
