CM assures Mandrem MLA to solve Kul-Mundkar cases

Says those Goans who have been staying in their houses and who have been cultivating land for years should get their rights; to appoint special Mamlatdar to handle such issues

PANJIM: Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar on Wednesday met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and requested him to appoint a special Mamlatdar to clear pending Kul-Mundkar cases in his constituency on fast track basis.

Speaking to mediapersons, Arolkar said the land of locals is at risk as after Mopa international airport came up, investors from across the country bought lands illegally in Mandrem constituency.

“Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has assured me that he will appoint special Mamlatdar to clear Kul Mundkar cases in Mandrem. Today some investors are buying lands illegally in Mandrem,” Arolkar said.

The MLA said there is an urgent need to fast-track the Kul-Mundkar cases which are pending for the last 30 to 40 years and make changes in the Tenancy Act and Mundkar Act to give justice to the tenants and mundkars, who have got sandwiched between landlords and investors.

Arolkar said though the Mundkarial Act and Tenancy Act were passed nearly 50 years ago, their implementation was still waiting to see the light.

Stating that as many as 276 tenancy declarations in Mandrem alone, Arolkar said that he has appointed four lawyers to process the cases free of cost.

Later, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that he had assured the Mandrem MLA to look into cases. The Chief Minister said he too was of the opinion that Kul and Mundkars should get their rights.

“Yes he (Arolkar) met with regards to Kul-Mundkar cases. I told him that I will check. I am also of the opinion that the Kul-Mundkar should get their rights as soon as possible. I had told this on the floor of the House as well. Those Goans who have been staying in their houses for years should be in their names. Similarly those who have been cultivating lands for years should be in their names,” the CM said.
