PANJIM: Following a shortage of supply of beef in the State, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Wednesday assured that the government will resolve the beef shortage issue before Christmas.
“The government is seized of the matter and I can assure that we will resolve the beef shortage issue before Christmas,” Sawant said.
He said the State government is making all arrangements to make beef available in the State. He, however, refused to disclose how he intends to resolve the issue.
Due to a new legislation in Karnataka, which bans the slaughter of cattle, beef imports have been severely hit.
Beef vendors met the Chief Minister on Tuesday stating that the shops have been closed since last Friday. The vendors said nobody was ready to transport beef as any person caught would be penalised a huge amount.
