PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar promised to deliver on the promises he made last year, before the completion of the current financial year.
Speaking to Herald, Parrikar said that a lot of what he had assured was in the process of being fulfilled or in the final stages.
“The proposal for the superfast cars for police is in the final stage. Probably after the rains it should be ready. Pending the purchase of these superfast cars as a sort of arrangement, the Goa Police Robert patrolling vehicles were deployed along the highways. These vehicles have to be purchased and hitherto police were not allowed to purchase expensive vehicles,” Parrikar said adding that many of the approvals were in place.
Out of the seven promises underlined by Herald, Parrikar said that “one has already been honoured that of recruitment of policemen; another is nearly done (super fast cars for cops) while two others depend on external factors while the fifth will be executed over the course of the next financial year.
He said that the promises of the dairies and that of the rice mill were pending because of the unsatisfactory response to the government’s advertisements and expressions of interests for these projects. “These are factors out my control,” Parrikar said.
The chief minister also said that the Goa Police Bill was in the process of being drafted and that while the matter was urgent, he was personally monitoring the drafting. He also said that the government would keep the draft open to the public for suggestions, before tabling it in the Assembly.
“I don’t yet know, how long the next session of the Assembly is going to be. I may just introduce the bill and refer it to a select committee,” Parrikar said. On the promise pertaining to drive-in markets for farmers, Parrikar said “It will happen.”
“These are promises for the financial year, they will be completed before its end,” he assured.
