MAYEM: Providing power supply at Sanquelim, Keri and some parts of Bicholim town and attending to public queries has become a major challenge for the electricity sub-centre at Sanquelim, given the numerous problems at the office.
The sub-centre does not have a retaining wall and in the absence of adequate protection, the building is an easy target for burglaries. Besides, rainwater has been seeping into the room which stores material like electrical wires and cables. Employees at the office have also faced many problems in discharging their work.
The only toilet at the centre is packed with electric material and this has forced employees to go outside the premises to answer nature’s call.
The office of the junior engineer is also uncomfortable, as both chairs are broken and the office does not have a fan.
This sub-centre is serviced by two engineers, four operators, 11 linemen, five drivers, 15 helpers and two seasonal helpers and they have to cater to a wide area right from Usgao Bridge, Amona, Bicholim, Keri and surrounding areas.
In case of power cuts, both engineers are expected to proceed to the site and there is no additional engineer to attend to the public.
“We work very hard to attend to all requirements of the people,” said junior engineer Vishal Jalmi.
