PORVORIM: Opposition benches attacked Chief Minister and PWD Minister Pramod Sawant on the refusal of the PWD to admit defects in the renovation of the Kala Academy.
They also wouldn’t buy the CM’s argument that the defect liability of the contractor was 3 years and maintenance responsibility for 5 years. How can a newly renovated structure be leaking and have defects?
As the uproar continued CM agreed to constitute a committee of artistes and when prodded also agreed to take Charles Correia Foundation on board to rectify defects.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said that it was the Chairman Govind Gaude who had given specific instruction to the PWD on sound system and other things, which turned out defective.
CM said Rs 49 crore were spent thus far on the renovation and final report was awaited on Kala Academy and would be tabled in the next assembly session.
