PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar stepped out of his residence for the very first time after his discharge from AIIMS Delhi in October, to inspect the ongoing work of the third Mandovi Bridge on Sunday. He later inspected the work of the new Zuari Bridge.
“Chief Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar visited the construction site of the 3rd Mandovi Bridge and inspected the progress of work. Officials of GSIDC and L&T engineers were present on the site to brief the Chief Minister. CM Parrikar later also inspected the ongoing works of the new Zuari Bridge,” the CMO said in a message circulated to the media along with photographs wherein Parrikar is seen with the engineering team and the government officials.
He is also seen smiling and interacting with the engineers.
He was seen with a Feeding Tube and was still supervising the work.
The photos have silenced the critics particularly the Congress who have been alleging that CM is not in a physical or mental state to run the State affairs.
Just a day ago on Saturday, CM has unveiled the foundation stone for permanent campus of National Institute of Technology, Goa being constructed in Cuncolim in presence of Union HRD Minister Prakash Javdekar at his Dona Paula house.
CM was discharged from AIIMS Delhi and brought to Goa via chartered Ambulance on October 14. He was soon taken to his residence where he continues to take treatment. The CM has attended various meetings like cabinet and IPB but had not come out of the house until this Sunday. He even celebrated his birthday on December 13 indoors, the first time in his political career.
It may be recalled that Parrikar first took ill on February 15 this year and was admitted to GMC, but was flown to Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai the following day.
Parrikar later flew to the US on March 7 and took treatment till June and returned to Goa on June 17.
Parrikar was admitted to the AIIMS in September and returned home after treatment. Since then he is recuperating at his Dona Paula residence.
Initially the government informed that the CM was being treated for pancreatic treatment. However, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane disclosed in October that the CM was suffering from pancreatic cancer.
“Parrikar is suffering from pancreatic cancer, and is resting with his family,” Rane had disclosed to media on October 27.
The opposition, specially Congress, had been demanding that the government should make a formal statement on the health of the chief minister. A case has also been filed in this connection in the High Court Bombay in Goa.
