PORVORIM: Stating that government departments should provide efficient service to people, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said businessmen use various techniques to cheat customers and asked the Legal Metrology department to keep a strict vigil over activities of shopkeepers and traders.
He was speaking at Porvorim after inaugurating the Legal Metrology Bhavan on Monday in the presence of Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte, Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo and secretary of Legal Metrology Hage Khola.
“Some shopkeepers are using faulty weighing scales, packed items have irrational prices printed on them, the quantity of gas in cylinders is also less then the actually specified. Hence, the situations demand that these things should be audited at least quarterly. The pressure of fear in the minds of the shopkeepers and traders will bring down the instances of cheating,” said Parrikar.
Parrikar mentioned that the government proposes to shift most government offices out of Panjim.
“Two buildings, one each at Merces and in Housing Board, Porvorim, will be constructed shortly to accommodate some government offices in Panjim,” said Parrikar.
