PANJIM: Amid nationwide protests against Centre’s Agnipath recruitment scheme, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday announced to provide “reservations” in State government jobs to Agniveers after four years of service.
The announcement comes days after Union Defence minister Rajnath Singh unveiled the ‘Agnipath scheme’ of short-term contractual recruitment, extending maximum of four years, of soldiers in the tri-services that include the Army, Navy and Air force. The scheme, however, is facing nationwide protest.
Sawant on Monday wrote to Union Defence Minister congratulating him for the announcement of the “path breaking”, “visionary” Agnipath scheme and for transforming the army recruitment process.
Sawant tweeted that he has informed Union Minister about government decision to provide reservation to Agniveers in the recruitments in the department of police, forest, fire and emergency services, prisons, health and electricity department.
Last week, railway services were disrupted across the country as protesters, protesting against the scheme, blocked tracks and set train coaches ablaze in several states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Telangana.
