PANJIM: The Goa Forward Party (GFP) has accused Chief Minister Pramod Sawant of compromising on the contentious Mhadei water issue to save his ‘chair.’ The party led by Vijai Sardesai has demanded CM’s resignation charging him with selling Mhadei to Karnataka.
“The weak, accidental CM wants to complete his term by compromising on everything. He (CM) has always said that Mhadei is more than his mother but he is succumbing to pressure from the Centre. Since he is not elected but a selected CM, he has been doing everything to complete his term. He is trading his “mother” (Mhadei) with Karnataka,” Sardesai alleged while addressing a press conference, day after the Supreme Court’s setback to Goa on Mhadei water diversion.
He demanded that the CM should step down or arrange for an all-party meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention to protect Goa’s interest. An angry Sardesai also hit out at the Ministry of Environment and Forests stating, “Whatever illegal (work) that Karnataka has carried out (at the Mhadei site) will now be regularised… because of fixing between MoEF and someone in Goa, who is CM Sawant. They have sold Goa and Mhadei.”
“CM has no moral authority to rule the State. He should resign. Goa is becoming a banana Republic under this CM,” he added.
The ex-Deputy CM also asked Sawant to arrange a meeting with the PM after US President Donald Trump’s India visit and Carnival festival in Goa. “Go to the PM and get his appointment for intervention. We don’t want a meeting with PMP Secretary but PM,” he demanded.
