CM concedes many special educators are unqualified

Says non-qualified teachers should undergo desired training to match the eligibility criteria

PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar revealed that several teachers recruited as special educators in Sanjay School for Special Education during the erstwhile Congress-led coalition were not qualified for the posts.
Speaking on the floor of the House, he said that non-qualified teachers should undergo desired training to match the eligibility criteria.
“In 2007, more than 100 teaching staff was recruited in the school although they did not qualify for it. They had approached me complaining about the salary deduction besides related issues to which I asked them to get qualified for the posts by undergoing the desired training,” Parsekar, also the Education Minister, said.
His brought up the issue during Zero Hour to a query raised by Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte seeking the government’s attention to solve the crisis. Khaunte stated that the authorities have not only deducted salaries of the special educators but also started recovery proceedings after eight years of their service. “This has created unrest among the teachers for no fault of theirs. After a huge gap of eight years, the authorities have realized the pay fixation was wrongly done and made all teaching communities victims,” he said urging government to resolve the issue without harming the teaching community.
“They are dedicatedly imparting training to special children,” he said. Reiterating his stand, Parsekar assured that the government is handling these issues.
