PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday took a review of the weather forecast and early warning system with the officials of various government departments, Navy and Railways and directed them to expedite preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season.
Later, briefing reporters at Mantralaya at Porvorim, the Chief Minister said an emergency response support system has been prepared in consultation with the National Disaster Management Authority.
The Chief Minister said that emergency funds have been allocated to Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), other municipalities and panchayats for pruning of trees and disaster management.
Sawant said as many as 11 shelter homes have been prepared to deal with the disaster and each of them are capable of housing 500 persons.
The Chief Minister said the State has 400 trained Apda Mitra and Sakhis to assist the government in disaster management.
Sawant said disaster management specific directory will be released after announcement of Lok Sabha election results as some officials are expected to be transferred after that.
Responding to a question, the Chief Minister said people should take precaution while visiting waterfalls specially during monsoon season.
He said precautionary boards will be erected by the Disaster Management Authority at the waterfalls which are risky.
The Chief Minister said the State has incurred a significant loss amounting to crores of rupees due to the past disasters and accidents.
