PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday distributed sanction orders to some of the beneficiaries under the schemes ‘COVID-19 relief to marginalised/unorganised sector’ and ‘ex-gratia financial assistance to the family of the victims of COVID-19’.
150 beneficiaries under the marginalised/unorganised sector scheme received sanction orders of Rs 5,000 each while 50 families received sanction orders of Rs 2 lakh each under the ex-gratia financial assistance to families of victims of COVID-19.

This distribution was done at a function held at Institute Menezes Braganza, Panjim, which was organised by the Directorate of Social Welfare Department.
Officials of the department said that the government has processed almost all the applications that have come in so far and that some of the beneficiaries had already received sanction orders earlier and that the funds had been deposited in their accounts. Around 450 applications have come in from families of COVID-19 victims whereas 2,600 applications have come in for affected persons from the marginalised/unorganised sector.
They added that more such sanction orders will be distributed at a further stage.
Speaking on the occasion, CM reiterated the State government’s commitment towards the welfare of the affected persons from the pandemic as well as people who are in need of aid. On that note, the CM pointed out that they have been and will continue to distribute equipments like wheelchairs etc for those in need.
The CM also criticised opposition parties for trying to politicise the issue of welfare schemes, be it targeting the officials of the department claiming non-disbursement of funds or for making baseless allegations against the government.
Speaking about the beneficiaries, the CM expressed his sympathies to the plight of people from the unorganised sector such as those who have traditional jobs and could not earn a living during the pandemic. He also conveyed his condolences to the families of COVID victims.
