BAMBOLIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar got into election mode at the Liberation Day celebrations at Bambolim on Monday as he spoke at length of his government’s achievements. He said the government is trying hard to transform Goa into a model State.
“Goa got liberated 14 years after the rest of India but has never been backward in terms of development and education and is also marching ahead in employment and the health sector,” Parsekar said, addressing the gathering on the occasion of the Liberation Day celebrations at Bambolim.
He said the government has stressed on the education sector by introducing higher education institutions like the IIT and NIT and upgrading 300 primary schools while adding 13 new higher secondary schools.
“We have given schemes like the Goa Scholars, Bursary and interest free loan schemes for students and our government has also been committed in transferring all schools from Panjim to Cujira complex in a bid to ease traffic congestion. Such an educational hub will be replicated in other cities with Margao being next on the list after Panjim,” Parsekar said.
He said the government is committed in developing infrastructure and employment opportunities for youth by going ahead with the Chimbel IT Park, electronic city at Tuem, multi-level car park, Mopa airport and new bridges, which will boost the State and create employment.
He also spoke of the increased compensation to Mopa farmers whose lands have been acquired for the airport and the various schemes for youth.
“Many issues have been tackled by the government such as the Mayem custodian land issue in which the government has been successful in issuing sanads to the Mayem locals and the process of issuing sanads will be completed in the next 5-6 months,” the CM said
Stating that the government has been successful in transforming the tourism sector, he said Goa has seen a 30 percent increase in tourist arrivals. He also said that the health sector has been on the top as Goa has not detected any vector-borne diseases during the monsoon and cases detected have entered Goa from other states.
Dredging of River Sal to be ready soon: Furtado
MARGAO: Minister for Labour and Employment Avertano Furtado said the dredging work of River Sal, which has been undertaken in three phases will be completed soon.
He was speaking at the Liberation Day function at the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex on Monday.
The minister also informed that the ongoing dredging work of River Sal from Khareband to Telaulim including the dredging of tributary from Davorlim to Jakniband has been completed.
All panchayats will be made cashless: Arlekar
PERNEM: “Pernem Municipal Council (PMC) will be the first municipal council to launch cashless transaction in Goa from December 19 onwards and in the next ten days all the 190 panchayats of Goa will be made cashless,” said Rajendra Arlekar Forest & Panchayat minister at the Liberation Day celebration at Pernem municipality.
He said, “Like the legislative Assembly, all panchayats will follow e-panchayat, paperless and cashless transactions and filing online documentation in next ten days. The new bus stand at Pernem having market complex, basement parking and other facilities will be inaugurated on December 20.
