PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday emphasised on home isolation measures so that the COVID-19 infected patients go to hospital on time. Proper monitoring of the home isolation will help reduce the patients getting into complications, he said.
Sawant and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane reviewed the COVID-19 situation with the medical superintendent and health officers of Directorate of Health Services.
Present were Chief Secretary Parimal Rai, Secretary (Health) Ravi Dhawan, GMC Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar, Health Services Director Dr Jose D’Sa, GMC consultants and chief medical officers (CMOs).
After interacting with health officers, the Chief Minister issued directives to take steps to step up hospitals at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee indoor stadium at Taleigao plateau wherein patients, who do not require oxygen, can be kept and given treatment.
It was also decided to have two more hospitals in Chicalim and Cansaulim and make them operational by May 5. Also such hospitals can be set up one in each block at Pernem, Bicholim, Valpoi, Canacona and Curchorem so as to reduce mortalities by early detection, Sawant said and appealed to all Goans to avail treatment from these facilities.
The Deputy Collectors of the block and the health officer of the areas have been directed to assess and take initiatives to set up such hospitals in each block. The doctors of the concerned primary health centres (PHCs) and community health centres (CHCs) and of the neighbouring PHC/CHC will come together to operate such hospitals.
The Collectors/Deputy Collectors will arrange the logistics for setting up such hospitals and also ambulance/Balrath buses for transportation of patients. The Collectors will be directed to issue directives to respective Deputy Collectors to take necessary action.
A special orientation will be organised by the consultants of GMC for medical officers and nursing staff of PHC and CHC on the checklist to monitor the patient and also how to tackle co-morbid condition in such COVID-19 positive cases. The entire programme will be virtual.

“Our team headed by the Dean of GMC Dr Bandekar, all the doctors, nurses, MTS, interns, nursing students & other frontline workers are working unabated to get the ICU facility in shape at the Super Specialty Block. Post this, we shall be adding ICU beds, ventilators, monitors and all other equipment required to have a hi-tech facility in place. Grateful to the team for their dedication & relentless effort,” Rane added.
