PANJIM: Claiming that not a single rupee of Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar’s Rs 102 crore promise was paid to the truck drivers affected by the closure of mining activity, the All Goa Truck Drivers Association announced that the drivers would take part in two morchas – one in the North and the other in the South – in protest.
Speaking to media persons on behalf of the drivers, Advocate Ajeetsingh Rane said, “Parsekar had promised a Rs 102 crore package for truck drivers where each person would receive Rs 15 lakh. But we are asking for at least Rs 5 lakh. Before the 14th we have asked that the government give at least half of this amount.”
The union has decided to organise a motorcycle rally on September 7 in South Goa beginning from the Sanvordem bus stand at 10 am and moving through Curchorem, Sanguem and back to Sanvordem, which will culminate in a meeting of over 300 drivers and their family members.
The North maha morcha will be held on September 9 at parade ground, Campal, beginning at 10 am and proceeding to the fire brigade area, 18 June Road and culminate at Azad Maidan.
