MARGAO: Asserting that garbage collection and disposal was his government’s top-most priority, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Saturday assured that on Monday the tendering process for setting up of garbage treatment plants in the State would be finalised. He claimed the proposed plants would give relief to the people on the garbage front within three months.
During an informal chat with media persons on the sidelines of the Gulab awards function at the Ravindra Bhavan, here, on Saturday evening, the Chief Minister said the government would invite tenders for setting up of the proposed waste treatment plants using German technology.
“We are meeting on Monday to discuss the tendering process after which the government would invite tenders,” he said and clarified that the government would not spend any money on the proposed plants, adding that the bidder would take the responsibility of erecting the same and recovering costs. “After 10 years, the plants, which are also in operation in Italy and Germany, will operate literally free as the bidder will recover the cost by then,” he said.
While declining to throw light on the location of the proposed waste treatment plant for South Goa, Parrikar reiterated that the proposed plants are odourless  and smell free, adding that the government would depute people to Italy and Germany to have a look at the plants there.
