PANJIM: With the State government making 200 hours of remedial teaching mandatory for weak students, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday warned to take stern action against the school management and teachers who fail to take up remedial teaching, post school hours.
Addressing the 61st Teachers Day event, Sawant also cautioned teachers against opting for part-time jobs like LIC agents, contractors, etc. and to make certain that they also don’t take up private tuitions.
“We have made remedial teaching compulsory for all government and aided schools. We will take stern action against the teachers and school management who don’t follow it. If required we will also stop grants of those schools,” he said.

Education Minister, said that it is the duty of the principal to ensure that the remedial teaching
is planned and implemented in the school, compulsorily.
“Teachers have good salaries. They should work full-time as teachers. They should stop taking second jobs as LIC agents, contractors and focus only on teaching,” he said.
The Chief Minister also stressed on need for teachers to upgrade their skills and knowledge as per today’s need.
“Nowadays, children are far technology and innovation friendly then we are. Teachers will have to get their skills upgraded as per the need. BEd …DEd… studies won’t help…we will have to think and learn out-of-box. To create New India, New Goa, teachers will have to take the lead and mold our students in the field of research and innovations,” he said.
Sawant also announced the State’s efforts to improve teacher-student ratio at primary and secondary level schools.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister honoured six meritorious teachers with State Teachers Award 2021-22, for their exemplary work in the field of education. While honouring them, Sawant urged teachers not to approach politicians for their recommendation to get the award.
“These awards are given to teachers for their exemplary work…to the deserving one. No teacher should approach politicians for award recommendation. Even I get many requests, which I don’t entertain and will not entertain in future too,” he said.
