“Garbage is a problem affecting everyone in Goa. It is not just because it’s a tourist state. We plan to include village panchayats, involve self help groups and introduce segregated garbage collection in many places. But what is required is education, but it will not happen in a couple of days,” Parsekar said.
It is through programmes like the science fiesta, that awareness and education about garbage is to be spread, including at the school-level he said. “Awareness is most important. Campaigns such as ‘Make in India’ and ‘Swacch Bharat’ will help towards this goal,” the CM said.
The fiesta organised to celebrate National Science Day will remain open till February 28, and features informative stalls put up by National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Nuclear Power Corporation of India, Indian Council for Agriculture Research (ICAR), Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) and robotics company Inventrom. Also part of the fiesta are school projects as well as games and puzzles with science as the main theme.
