VERLA CANCA: Irked over the nuisance created by the tourists in public places, Calangute MLA, Michael Lobo said during the last Assembly session, Chief Minister had agreed to bring an amendment to the Tourist Trade Act but following his illness the proposal has remained pending.
Speaking on the sidelines of a function held to construct a culvert at Parra-Verla Canca on Tuesday, he said, “When Parrikar was well I had asked him to amend the Tourist Trade Act by imposing heavy fines on those creating nuisance on the beaches and at other public places.”
“During the last Assembly session the CM had agreed to bring an amendment to the Tourist Trade Act but he fell sick and was moved to US. The proposal has remained pending,” said Lobo.
“Tourists break bottles on the beach making it dangerous for those walking barefoot. On weekends the footfall of tourist on the beaches is more and the number of broken bottles left behind is huge,” he said.
“Sixty percent of the state’s economy depends on tourism and we need to bring reforms in the tourism sector,” Lobo said and stressed the need for better roads, parking and other beautification works to attract more tourists.
