CM hails Centre for inviting religious minorities from neighbouring nations seeking citizenship

PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Saturday welcomed the Government of India’s decision to invite process of applications from religious minorities of neighbouring countries seeking citizenship.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued a notification asking people belonging to persecuted Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Christians and Buddhists communities belonging to Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan and residing in 13 districts in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Punjab and Haryana to apply for a certificate of naturalisation under the Citizenship Act, 1955 and the Citizenship rules framed under the law in 2009.
