VASCO: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant handed over keys of 100 taxis to unemployed youth under the Mukhyamantri Goencho Taxi Patrao Scheme at Dabolim, on Wednesday.
Sawant said that this was one of the unique schemes and first-of-its-kind initiative across the country taken by Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho, where taxis are being offered without any investment from the youth.
Stating that Godinho had always come with out of the box initiatives, Sawant hailed him for launching the Mukhyamantri Goencho Taxi Patrao Scheme, which will provide a source of livelihood to the people of the State.
Sawant said that the government had earlier handed over keys of 59 taxis at Miramar and GoaMiles will provide1,000 taxis to the people of the State through this scheme by this year.
The Chief Minister claimed that no State across the country has such zero investment scheme without any margin money or any down payments and that installment will be deducted automatically as the taxis are being used from the income generated by the Patrao (operator). The scheme will make a minimum of 1,000 Goans a Patrao and they can even hire drivers for this taxi business in three shifts, if required while generating a work culture in the State but ensuring that only Goans can be engaged in this traditional taxi business.
Godinho said that he always believed to offer developments to the people on his birthday. The Goans must not feel that they are taxi drivers but have pride that they are also businessmen with taxis and this is why the government launched the scheme with Patrao word in it. The app-based taxi will soon become the new normal and all taxis must shift to apps because it is the demand of the public, he said.
