PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday flagged off two armoured bullet resistant vehicles procured by the Goa Police security unit. The vehicles will serve the Central and State protectees, when they are on Goa visits.
The vehicles were flagged off in the presence of the Director General of Police (DGP) Jaspal Singh and other senior police officials at the Police headquarters.
The Chief minister also released a special branch manual, which he said, was missing in Goa Police Department. Sawant handed over laptops to the Lady Police Sub Inspectors (LPSIs), who are heading women help desks at various police stations across the State. A coffee table book depicting the transition of the Goa police from the pre-liberation to present day was also released.
Speaking at the occasion, Sawant said that due to absence of armoured bullet resistant vehicles, the Protocol Department had to hire them from other States to serve the VIPs and VVIPs visiting Goa. He said, “The decision for the procurement was taken in 2019 and now the vehicles have been received after being built in the armoury at Ahmednagar.”
DGP Jaspal Singh said that until now Goa Police was working without a Special Branch Manual. “Goa is the only State that did not have a Special Branch Manual. However, with the efforts of SP South Goa and SP Nidhin Valsan, Goa Police now has a Manual which will enable Special Branch to conduct their job in a much professional manner,” he added.
