PANJIM: The Congress has come down heavily against the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant’s remark that the party is supporting the MGP in Mandrem and Shiroda to ensure the defeat of Congress candidates.
GPCC’s media convenor Trajano D’Mello slamming at the Chief Minister for his statement said, “The Chief Minister is under such a pressure that I can safely tell you that he has lost his political mental balance. He is now telling people that Congress has done a setting in Mandrem constituency to support an Independent. In Shiroda, he says we have a setting to help MGP.”
Stating that the BJP was worried as the party candidates are being gheraoed for failures, Trajano said, “They (BJP) know that we are winning all the three seats and once the three seats are won, we are forming the government. Both the Lok Sabha seats are gone from their hands. See the hostile reception the sitting MP of North Goa is getting, who is also a Union Minister.”
He stated that the Chief Minister has come on record to say that mining was stopped because of ex-chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar and has named him. “This shows the nervousness and the rift between the top leaders of the BJP”, he added.
Questioning the independence and unbiased role the Election Commission ought to play, Trajano said, “Is the Election Commission working independently to allow free and fair elections. I had lodged a complaint more than a fortnight ago to say the appointment of the Deputy CMs is against the Code of Conduct. But I haven’t received a reply till date from the Election Commission. If it is not against, then inform us and we will challenge it in the court.”
He also questioned the government’s alleged policy decision to increase the retirement age from 60 years to 62 years in the ESI Hospital to benefit the brother of Deputy Chief Minister Babu Azgaonkar.
