VASCO: Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Sunday hinted that the party is likely to give Cortalim ticket to sitting legislator Alina Saldanha. He said Saldanha who came into politics by accident has now managed to connect with the people.
Parsekar was addressing Zuarinagar slum residents after laying down foundation stone for market complex cum community hall project at Zuarinagar on Sunday. The market complex building that would be constructed in a property donated by Zuari Agro Chemicals Limited (ZACL) and would cost around Rs 3.62 crore will have Vegetable market, library, sun heath centre, community hall besides a mini garbage treatment plant would also be set up inside the project premises.
“Alina came into politics by accident and for two years she was reluctant but after two years she has now taken pace. Today she successfully managed to resolve several important issues such as bifurcation of Cortalim-Quelossim Panchayat, and pending issue of 48 tenaments at Zuarinagar,” Parsekar said.
On the achievements of the government, Parsekar claimed that the State government schemes have touched every household, which has happened for the first time in any of the government.
“The BJP government has touched every household through its schemes. There won’t be a single person who has not reaped benefit of the schemes floated by State government. This is the first government which has reached to every household and everyone is reaping the benefits,” he added.
Citing an example, Parsekar said the BJP-led government abolished VAT on the petrol bringing down the prices by Rs 11 per litre. “At present, petrol costs Rs 59 per litre in Goa while in neighbouring States it is Rs 75 per litre which means after every litre, State government is repaying Rs 15 to the consumer,” he calculated.
“Every time you fill petrol, you are saving money. This is due to the initiative of the State government which had promised that it would not allow the petrol price to cross Rs 60 per litre limit. We have kept the promise,” he said.
Alina said that the market project is Christmas gift for the residents of Zuarinagar. “Though the project got delayed a bit, but finally the same would soon become reality. As Zuarinagar is a house of thousands of people, I have made a provision of sub-heath centre in the market complex project, similarly all other needs of the people have been incorporated in the project including community hall,” she said.
