CM inaugurates Science Film Festival, encourages schools to visit prominent scientific institutions

MARGAO: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant inaugurated the Science Film Festival of India (SCI-FFI)- 2024 on Tuesday. The festival is being organised by Vidnyan Parishad, Goa & Department of Science & Technology Government of Goa, at Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) Complex, Panjim

Sawant urged schools in Goa to send their students to the Goa Science Centre & Planetarium, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research- National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO) and National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) so that the students can develop and further their interest in science.

Sawant said the schools should do this instead of organising picnics in places such as Baga and Calangute. He lamented that hardly two per cent of the students from such schools undertake PhDs later on.

Earlier, Sawant inaugurated the festival in the presence of ESG Vice Chairperson Delilah Lobo, Director of Science, Technology and Waste Management (WM) Dr Levison Martins, National Organising Secretary Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA) Dr. Shivkumar Sharma, President, Vidnyan Parishad, Goa, Suhas J Godse, Vice-Chancellor, Goa University, Prof Harilal Menon; and others.

The CM also went around to see other exhibits at the festival and praised the innovative nature of the festival and its scope to impart scientific knowledge in a more attractive manner to the youngsters of Goa.
