VASCO:  Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant inspected the newly set up bio-tech solid waste treatment plant at Headland Sada, on Tuesday. He was accompanied by Urban Development Minister Milind Naik.

On the occasion, Sawant said that setting up a new technology based plant within 20 days and making it function properly is a great achievement. “This plant function will be reviewed after two months and seeing its results similar SWTPs may come up across Goa wherever needed,” he said.

He told the reporters that this new SWTP would treat 1.20 lakh tonnes of legacy waste at Headland Sada waste dump site. “I don’t think any other treatment plant can treat waste at such a faster rate,” he said.

Sawant said that his government is spending crores of rupees to clear the waste dumps lying for the last 50 years. “Around Rs 300-400 crore is being spent by my government to treat the legacy waste,” he said.

Since past more than 15 years the legacy solid waste is lying at the Headland dumping site. Despite efforts to treat the legacy waste, it continued piling up at the Headland dumping site. To solve the problem, a new plant based on bio-mining technology was set up to treat waste with greater efficacy.
