PORVORIM, DEC 22
Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Wednesday evening visited the shops which were gutted in the fire that broke out in Mapusa Municipal market early Monday morning.
Mapusa MLA Francis D’Souza, Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Sudhir Kandolker, former chairperson and Councilor Roopa Bhakta, Mapusa Merchants Association President Yeshwant Gaudalker, NCP President Surendra Sirsat and Gurudas Natekar were present during Kamat’s visit.
The chief minister had a discussion with the Mapusa MLA, Surendra Sirsat and the shopkeepers.
MLA D’Souza informed Chief Minister Kamat that shopkeepers have suffered huge losses to the tune of Rs 1 crore. Besides shops, their goods also have been completely destroyed in the fire and since most of them had not covered goods under insurance, the shopkeepers may be offered some compensation immediately.
Addressing the media, Chief Minister Kamat said that he would consider D’Souza’s suggestion sympathetically.
He directed the Director of Municipal Administration and the Deputy Collector to assess the losses and submit their report of damages immediately and as soon as the report reaches his hand, he will announce the compensation package before Christmas positively.
When asked about the induction of Micky Pacheco into the cabinet, Kamat stated that he has been advised by Union Agriculture Minister and NCP President Sharad Pawar to induct Micky Pacheco into the cabinet.
“However, I will take the decision only after consulting and getting the approval from High Command,” added Kamat.
