PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Monday preferred not to speak on Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik turning down the government’s proposal for a new Raj Bhavan building.
When media persons requested the Chief Minister to comment on the Governor’s decision, Sawant nodded his head as he dogged the question.
The Chief Minister had on July 24 announced the proposal to construct a new premises for Raj Bhavan, as the existing building at Dona Paula has been declared as a heritage structure by Archeological Survey of India. However, the Governor in a letter to the Chief Minister on July 27, requested the latter to defer the proposal till the State’s finances improve.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s office, it was said that at the time when the state is battling COVID-19 and reeling under financial crisis, the idea to construct a new Raj Bhavan is irrational and imprudent.
